Today we went to York. I need a t-shirt that says I heart York. lol I guess that is the NYer in me. It is such a lively city with so much to offer. There were street performers everywhere. I absolutely loved it. Many of the streets in the city centre are cobbled and when you walk through "The Shambles" you can almost feel the presence of the many people who have come before you. I am humbled and blessed to have been there. York Minster is incredible. I have no words.
I am so incredibly grateful to share this experience with my children, even if they do not fully comprehend the gift that is given. I hope that when we move back home, they have a greater sense of understanding for the world we are a tiny part of.
Entering York through the gates.
Walking through the Shambles.
Street performers. So much fun to watch! There were musicians all over.

Around town (York). Jason was a sport and carried Caitlin.
A great day, for sure.
Nice to see you had a beautiful time in York. This weather is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe really did. It was lovely.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see this post! Living in Europe is a great blessing. Many Americans, upon arriving, try to "Americanize" their experience, clinging as best they can to the ways of our native land, instead of embracing the beauty that surrounds them and enjoying the unique and valuable experience. Glad to hear you're appreciating what you have here!
ReplyDeleteI have two recommendations for you:
1) if you're a reader, make a "British" reading list for your time here- a list of books by British authors, or about British history. I'm about halfway into mine- it's greatly enriched my experience here.
2) make a list, now, of things you'd like to see (both near and far). Your time will go quickly- leaving trips until the last few months of a tour invariably leads to missed opportunities and disappointment.
If you'd like to see either of my lists pertaining to the above, let me know.
I love the book list idea. I've already been leaning toward British authors while browsing the stacks.
DeleteWe've already made some adjustments to our travel list and have a few trips booked. We need to prioritize them and start with the places we really don't want to miss.
Thanks for the tips!
No problem :-). Here's my blog; I review books from my list (and others) on it: http://overlordmusings.blogspot.co.uk/
DeleteLet me know if you want the full list (travel or book)!
I'd love to see more of your travel reviews.
DeleteWill do; I need a few days to piece some things together :-)
